WHAT IS LEARNING?

Learning is a whole concept and it contains certain specific features which must be kept in mind by those who provide teaching services. It's not some kind of spontaneous process. On the other hand, teachers should plan it closely given its importance to teaching. If you want to learn more about this concept and its roots, then it's a good way of asking some questions.

WHAT'S THE MEANING OF LEARNING?

Along with being a basic function of the brain, learning also refers to the observable changes and developments in a person's knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the long run. Thus, all its aspects, including human biology, should be taken into account.

WHAT'S THE PURPOSE OF LEARNING?

Learning requires a process of repetition in our brain, which is not possible if we only do something once. To learn, the brain needs to use up a lot of energy. Without energy, learning doesn't occur because the brain has other functions to realize. Moreover, learning doesn't take place in isolation but as a series of steps that strengthen the conceptualisation process. Because learning doesn't take place only in a face-to-face environment.

WHAT'S THE LONGEST DURATION OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE EDUCATIONAL VIDEO FOR UNIVERSITY STUDENTS?

University students tend to stop watching educational videos if they are more than 15 minutes long. So, the ideal time is between 10-15 minutes.

WHAT ARE THE BEST PARTS OF A LESSON YOU CAN REMEMBER?

The visual part of the lesson is likely to be the most remembered because the brain processes and makes sense of it more quickly and easily.

WHAT SHOULD BE THE LENGTH OF TIME AND WHY WOULD WE NEED AN ONLINE LESSON?

An online lesson will be more efficient if it lasts more than 15 minutes but less than 30 minutes because students project their concentration on a lesson during the first and last parts of the lesson. The level of memorability will be maintained in this case.

WHY DO WE DO THE LESSON DESIGN?

Thanks to the lesson design, we make learning easier. We are teaching the students how to establish memories and connect. In addition, to achieve the learning and teaching cycles we are doing lesson plans to make them effective. Moreover, based on the teaching principles of the brain, we should draw up a lesson. Overall, the use of lesson designs makes learning more effective and efficient.

Learning is made up of 2 major components: learning cycles and teaching cycles. As has already been pointed out, education and teaching are linked; thus, it is necessary to know the significance of these cycles for a good classroom experience.

The learning cycle consists of learning, self-empowerment, intrinsic motivation and commitment. In this respect, the importance of self-expression has to be taken into consideration because it's important for students. They should think they are capable of doing great things in education. Teachers should then ask questions based on pupils' knowledge, and praise them when they answer. It also strengthens intrinsic motivation, as well as the importance of the education cycle.

The teaching cycle consists of an introduction- explanation- demonstration-practice-feedback-summary. It is important to give the lecture on similarities and differences because this is how a brain learns. Establishing a relationship and making students practise cognitive processes is important so that by summarising the topics with their main characteristics they can be given feedback on how they are thinking. This is the teaching cycle of a meaningful whole.

The importance and effectiveness of teaching activities, pre and post-teaching should be born in mind. In this way, students' self-efficacy, motivation, and foreknowledge are established. During learning, they are guided and supplemented by preparing for their next lesson.

To sum up, this blog considers the learning process and its basic elements as well as how it should be done and what aspects thereof need to be addressed. For the sake of good learning, it is necessary to look at this as a whole. In preparing this blog post, I used Prof. Soner Yıldırım's Zoom video on language and learning, so I'm sharing the link to the video so you can watch it!
